Facebook is awesome

I know, I know, you're just thinking I'm an addict and of course I think it's awesome even though it can be a total time-suck. But Facebook is awesome because nearly everyone is ON it, especially mom's of small in the 25-40 demographic...which means ALL my friends. It allows me to stay connected to old friends thousands of miles away in Pennsylvania in a way that I NEVER would have, because I don't write letters and nobody has time to just chat for an hour on the phone anymore. And it allows me to get to know new friends a little faster! I'm all about efficiency.

The girl in the photo is my dear sweet friend, Amy, who I got to hang out with for a bit in Orlando. She and her hubby were friends of ours back when we lived in Reading, PA (two houses and more than five years ago). In fact, now that I think about it, I did attend their wedding. (seems like decades ago) But we have been able to keep in touch because of Facebook and I get great advice on parenting and wonderful spiritual insights from her. What's really fun for me, is to watch from somewhat of a distance as she and her husband have really grown in their relationships with the Lord since we met them. Nothing gives me more joy that to watch someone go through that. When we talked about churches last week she told me she and Art had recently been rebaptized as confessing adults and she highly encouraged Mike and I to take that step in our new (baptist) church. I think we're getting there, slowly.

Anyway, here's to friendships, old and new!

Cotton candy and marketing

What's really funny to me about this photo, is that it was taken at the end of a VERY long day for Nathan. He is actually super tired and cranky in this photo, but he's used to smiling for my camera.

Last night I drove down to the city for a workshop called Hands On Small Business, sponsored by Microsoft Office Live and Kirtsy, and taught by the ever-lovely Monica Danna and Maggie MacDonald. Those ladies, along with Kirtsy founder, Laura Mayes, always have a wealth of good info to share, so I jump at the chance to learn from them. I bet you didn't know you can use Tweetdeck to manage multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously from one screen! I didn't.

Oh, and I had a really hard time finding the pub it was held in, because my STUPID GPS kept sending me to the wrong place, only a block away but I drove around the same block in circles a few times till I realized it was one block further down. I have a sinful amount of pride when it comes to my directional, navigational abilities...so getting lost...or even wasting five minutes looking for a place...makes me very annoyed.

Yeah, can you say STRONG "J" on the Meyers-Briggs test? Heehee.

Ok I'm back. Back from my big trip to Orlando. Yeah I've been back for a few days, but I'm playing catch-up.

The trip was good. I lost a whole lot of sleep and it was well worth it. My presentations went well and a lot of people came to our booth later in the week seeking me out because of my talk. I was very impressed by how far our two newer employees have come since I last saw them a year ago...they have both obviously learned a ton. We had a new product on display that was surprisingly hot, everyone wanted to know about it and talk about it. That was pretty sweet.

Unfortunately Nathan got sick while I was away. Because of the H1N1 going around I thought he should be seen by the doc, so Mike spent two hours waiting around while the kid was tested for everything and came up with nothing. He was fine in another day. Of course now there is a confirmed case of H1N1 in his classroom and I can't get him the vax yet. :(

Saturday was crazy busy, I had a family portrait photoshoot in the morning, Nate had a soccer game in which he SCORED A GOAL! And then I took him to a birthday party where the mom had called and asked to hire me to shoot the photos. So then there was a TON of editing from the nearly four hours of combined shooting on Saturday.

Anywho, life is back to normal now, and this weekend will be crazy busy as always. But I like it that way :)

I woke up this morning feeling terrible, bad headache, the cough that never dies, and some stress over all that needs to get done in the coming days. But you know what? Life is short and sweet and there is no reason to complain or worry about ANYTHING. Nothing.

So I dragged my butt out of bed and took Nate to Kindergarten and took some meds and then about mid-morning, the sun came out, my headache disappeared, and I realized all was right with the world. Tomorrow my mom arrives from Philadelphia and we are all happy to see her. Then Friday I leave for Orlando to head to WEFTEC, the annual wastewater convention. 20,000 of my closest friends...HA! I have two presentations to give, which are about 90% done and just require practice...something I procrastinate doing because it makes me slightly nervous, but I have learned it is very necessary and helps me be the killer public speaker that I am :) The more I practice at home, the less time I have to spend in my hotel room practicing when I could be out enjoying time with my old friends.

By the way, the David Crowder Band concert was incredible...of course. I highly recommend you go buy his new album, Church Music, right now. My only disappointment was that our seats were not close and my husband is not a fan so he did not want to move up and stand near the stage. I ran up to try to take photos, which you can see on my Flickr. They are nowhere near as awesome as the concert photos that my H-town photog friends Trish, Mark, and Chris regularly take. Go, follow the links and check out their incredible work! I need to learn how to get those photo passes for closer access.

Also released on iTunes today is Fee's new record, Hope Rising. I've had it for a couple weeks now and it is on constant replay in my car. Rockin' worship music at its best. Go, get it NOW. You'll thank me :)

For Your Listening Pleasure

I love live music. I love it especially when it is very loud, fueled by electricity and adrenaline. I love it the most when it involves worshiping the Creator, talking and singing about the amazing, redeeming grace of God. David Crowder Band is one of the best at combining all those things in a unique sound, right up my ally. I am SO looking forward to hearing them live this Saturday night.

This is one of my favorites of his, and I totally relate to the experience of the kid in this video. Life is beautiful and it makes me want to sing all the time.
