Three More Days

Three More Days

Ok so now I'm starting to get excited. Birthday week is finally here for sure. I've resolved he isn't coming early or on his own, so a Thursday morning C-section it will be. So far a couple women on my pregnancy/due date message boards have had C-sections and bounced back very quickly, and Mike reminded me that they only kept me three days after my last one. For some reason I thought it was five, but no, Nathan was there for five. So if I have the surgery early Thursday I should be home on Saturday!

I really do think he's already a big baby and I think having this surgery scheduled without any labor is going to be much easier to recover from than last time. Plus the baby boy outta be perfectly healthy and should be able to stay with me the whole time! What a change that will be from last time.

Mike did some little projects like hanging curtains in Nathan's room and a shelf in the nursery this weekend. That makes me very happy. I pulled most of my maternity clothes out of my closet and suddenly my closet looks half empty! I am soooo looking forward to my old (and some new) clothes. I cleaned a lot of old stuff out of Mike's closet too and despite the fact that he has a lot of clothes for a guy, his closet looks REALLY empty now. And he wonders why I make him keep the three laundry hampers in there. Nathan is actually the one really short on space for clothes...isn't that crazy? The poor boy has almost no shoes but clothes coming out the ying-yang. I buy for him a lot at consignment sales and end of season sales, plus we get a fair amount of hand-me-downs from my awesome neighbors. My sister is pregnant again, due December, and if she has a boy....look out! The seasons may be a bit off, but she'll get more stuff from me than she can possibly use.

Well, boss is on vacay and the guys have more or less stopped giving me assignments, so I'm off to find something to do!

No Baby Yet

Bored out of my mind. I've cleaned and organized my entire house. I've shopped myself to death, considering I still can't buy myself any new clothes. Neither the baby nor Nathan really need anything. The book I'm reading isn't too good yet. Not a thing on TV. Too hot and humid to go outside for walks or to the zoo. Beach is too far away (but I swear my mom lives there.)
I have lots of photo editing to do and no motivation to do it.

Ok, rant over. Back to my regularly scheduled waiting.

Babies, babies, everywhere

Still hanging around. More progress, but still not quite there yet. Trying to keep my mind distracted, but not very able to focus on useful things like work or photo editing. Unfortunately the doctor advised me not to go to my hydroaerobics class tonight, because of having less resistance to infection (poolwater) right now. I can still do yoga though :) I suppose if Mike wants to go to the gym tonight I'll just walk around the track or something.

I did manage to do some cleaning and grocery shopping. That's a feat right now. I'm super unmotivated to do anything much. Nathan didn't nap yesterday and seems to not want to nap right now, which sucks. Doesn't he know how much more pleasant he is when he naps?

One of my friends from MOPS had her baby last week. 11 lbs, not by C-section. Yikes.

Last night I babysat my neighbor's 6 month old. I'm out of practice, but I'm sure that will change quickly.

Any Day Now

Ok, so I am totally convinced that baby is coming SOON, like maybe before this week is over. I went to the doctor today and I am really moving along (2 cm, 80% effaced, VERY low). I was crampy all day and Mike finally got home just about when the contractions died down. I went to yoga and since there were no men and all mothers plus Jen, the non-mother-childbirth-expert, we talked a ton about inducing labor, and Jen being the wonderful friend she is spent the whole class focused on poses designed to help me along! You rock, girl. So a couple girls convinced me to try a castor oil cocktail and I did, so we'll see tonight if that works.

Lots of other stuff going on right now but almost nothing else on my mind. My neighbor's dad died suddenly, work is crazy busy, all kinds of stuff. Well, frankly that's all I have to say for now. Hopefully somebody will update you when I go into labor and have the baby. Several of my regular readers/commenters are on my "baby alert" email distribution list, so be looking in the comments if you don't hear from me!

Weeds

He plays Mike and I off of one another, or tries. Plus I guess I put more effort into engaging him when Mike isn't there....Nate has a huge affinity for his father these days which really wears Mike out.

I even cleaned....some. But my little front garden....oy....I have weeds that are over 2 feet tall. I hate weeding in the first place, but bending over in the heat whilest 9 months pregnant is not my idea of fun. So meanwhile I'll put the blame on Mike for not getting more mulch, which must go hand-in-hand with the weeding.

Unfortunately for the first time this weekend my hands and feet have started to swell a bit. If you didn't know how skinny they have been before now you would not notice to look at them, but the HURT. I'm surprised that even the slightest bit of swelling could make my ankles so sore. And this morning when I woke up I tried to take my wedding rings off....not so easy! A month ago I wasn't wearing them because I was afraid they would FALL off. Even swimming in deep water last night didn't help. So I guess I must put up with this till baby comes. I'm wondering how it may affect my yoga class tonight. I'm gonna go and hang out in yoga squat all the time to encourage baby dooooown.

Oh and as for natural self-induction....beginning Thursday morning when Mike is on his way home I will be guzzling the rasberry leaf tea, popping the evening primrose oil, going on nice long walks around the block and up and down stairs....and then there's the other thing I won't mention on my family friendly blog.

He hasn't eaten for a couple of days and he is almost nonstop temper tantrums, except when other people are around. Temper tantrum right up until he crashed asleep last night, and temper tantrum from the moment he woke up. I gave him a little Tylenol because I've got to think something is hurting him, and thankfully he ate a bowl of oatmeal and went to school happily. Mike left this morning for four days....lets hope I survive. Frankly I think he could use a break from his cranky wife and child.

There are lots of things I'm supposed to be doing that I'm not. I haven't pre-registered for the hospital yet. I haven't really cleaned my house in awhile...it's a disaster. I'm supposed to host my Bible study this month for some kind of social, which I had planned to do yesterday but a good friend from out of town was here, and now I'm not inclined to plan anything. I was supposed to plan a night out for my MOPS group too. And work? I feel like biting people's heads off whenever they ask me a question. That's bad. Maybe a prenatal massage is in order.

Blogging

Ok, so some people have been accusing me of nearly abandoning my blog. Well if these same people ever left me comments, I might be encouraged to post more!

I'm not stuck in this cycle of just waiting, waiting, waiting. Not planning very much, can't commit to a lot, and generally being bored. It's really too hot to go for walks in the park, and if I spend any more time at the mall my bank account is going to evaporate.

I'm back to watching movies and reading books a bit more than I used to. Last weekend I rented Catch and Release, with Jennifer Garner, which I really liked, although it was pretty sad. I soooooo love Kevin Smith, who was actor/writer/director, etc. I love all his movies.

I also finished reading Swapping Lives, by Jane Green. It's total fluff chick lit, which is what I like. Not bad, but not my favorite of her books. Plus I'm not sure what was going through the editor or publishers heads when they released this, it had typos all over the place, both main characters had English best friends named Deborah and I spent half the book trying to figure out if there was one Deborah or two (there were two), and at the end the broke main character mentions FLYING from the Greenwich, CT area to Albany, NY. Um, HELLO? No one would do that, unless they were super rich, had their own plane, and liked to fly it just for fun. So these annoyances made me realize how quickly and half-heartedly publishers turn around the manuscripts of popular authors.

Ok, back to work, much work to be done today. I'm co-author on TWO big technical papers being presented at this year's national water conference, and the publishing deadline is tomorrow so we're busy wrapping up details last minute. Unfortunately the conference is in San Diego in October and Mike won't let me go that far with the new baby. Too bad, I loved San Diego.

Shopaholics Anonymous

Ok, so not really anonymous. I finally got around to taking some shots of the fun stuff I've bought the past couple weeks, namely because TBG really wants to see my new Coach bag.
So first and foremost, the bag I bought at the outlet, which I am saving for fall.

Cute, huh? Now the shoes I got at the Nordstrom sale, also completely impractical. I don't really have any maternity clothes that go with them, but I think they'd look great under some of my regular clothes which I'll be back in shortly. I think they are fun and sexy, but the hubs doesn't go for the wedge.

Speaking of Nordstrom, the other day I found matching One t-shirts at the Rack for Nathan and the baby. These are the shirts marketed at Nordstrom under the Edun clothing line, which is designed by Bono's wife, and they are all fair trade, manufactured from organic materials in an African village. If I could ever have found one for myself I would have bought one, but they sold out FAST when they came out a few months ago.

And finally, my bargain motherload from Gymboree. All these clothes are for baby, various sizes depending on season. I got ALL this stuff for less than $40.

Other than clothes, I have not done anything to get ready for baby's arrival. Some friends advised us to bring the baby equipment out of storage early so the older one can get used to it. The swing, the highchair, the car seat, etc. It's certainly going to be interesting to see how Nathan reacts to his brother. He has recently been both more prone to tantrums and more cuddly with us. He finally climbs into our bed in the morning and cuddles with us instead of bouncing around like mad demanding someone get his milk.
Well I'm back at work this morning and it's freaking hot today, heat index well over 100. My house is a disaster and I must hit the food store, which will be exhausting I'm sure. Prenatal swimming class tonight should be nice though. It always feels so good in the pool.

July Fourth Flashback

This is Nathan two years ago. Even then he was SOOO tall! He looks like he should be able to walk here, but he didn't walk for another few months.

Well our holiday was not so exciting. I woke up wanting some strawberry covered stuffed french toast, so we went to Bob Evans and I got exactly that. Mike installed the Sirius radio he bought me in my car, and I must say it's pretty cool. I vaccumed several gallons of dust and dirt and broken french fries out of my car too :)

We went to a big pool/BBQ party but it rained and we didn't know too many people there. Met a very nice woman who I think knows my friend (the hostess) from her La Leche League meetings. We compared baby gear since I had recently started using a Kate Spade diaper bag I picked up at a consignment sale for a few bucks. It's just a simple black. She had a fabulous silk Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag, which I would really like this time around but we'll have to see. She also had a gorgeous silk sling for the baby and very cool Coach wedge sandals. She had style, but ironically enough I think the minivan in the driveway covered with strong breastfeeding and pro-life bumber stickers was probably hers :)

It poured all evening so we were sure the town fireworks would be postponed like last year. I really wanted to take Nathan to see them. But alas, we were hanging out after Nate's bedtime with our neighbors and close to 10pm we saw what we think were the town fireworks going off. Bummer!! Plus all our neighbors were setting them off too. Nathan slept through it all.

Well, today is exactly four weeks till baby day unless he comes before that....I hope hope hope.

Got to see my sister and her family on Saturday morning before they spend their week at the beachhouse. My niece is just so cute, jabbering away all the time, and Nathan is fantastic with her. I think he thinks she's pretty great, but no doubt he would still be jealous of a newborn.

Thank God for small miracles, He answered my prayers and Nathan slept in till 8am Sat and Sun! We had to hustle to get to church. Sunday school discussion on 1 Cor. was great, we have really been dwelling on the issue of how to make good judgements without being "judgemental". Very very tough one.

Worship was fabulous, I am sure baby loves all the music, but the sermons continue to suck. Plus we just found out the pastor who we wanted to baptize both boys is going to another church. That's three pastors gone since we joined, a couple left and I don't think the ones who are left even baptize babies. So I guess we will wait to see the new people our church hires.

Oh, we celebrated our 9th anniversary last week. Mike got me Sirius Radio, which is very cool, but it's taking forever for him to get set up.

This perfect weather makes me want to spend time outside, and lately I've had an itch to do something down in the city (Philly). But Mike never likes that idea, plus our schedules are pretty full, especially if I want to go to all my swimming and yoga classes.

Well, back to work now. I promise I will post a picture of my new Coach bag and shoes soon. I am in severe withdrawal from not buying clothes.
